By default, the address used for your Survey landing page is a SweetHawk subdomain (app.sweethawk.com). However, you can update this to your own branded URL, such as survey.mycompany.com.
The workflow for changing the address consists of the following steps:
Updating the domain name in the Survey app
Setting the DNS records
1. Updating the domain name in the Survey app
Decide on the subdomain you want to use for your Survey landing page, then add it to the Branding section of the Survey app.
To do this:
Open the Survey app from the left menu in Zendesk.
Click Branding from the left-hand options.
At the top of the Branding screen, locate the section titled Custom landing page domain (requires DNS records to be created that will be sent to app admins by email).
Enter your desired subdomain and click Save settings.
Once saved, the admins of the Survey app will receive an email - usually within about an hour - containing the CNAME and TXT records required for DNS setup.
2. Setting the DNS records
After entering your subdomain, you should receive an email from us containing the DNS records you need to add at your domain registrar or hosting provider.
Note: You will need to create CNAME and TXT records on your domain registrar’s website to complete this setup. If you’re unsure how to do this, consult your system administrator before proceeding.
To make your subdomain an alias of the default Survey landing page address:
Sign in to your domain registrar or hosting provider’s control panel
(using the login credentials you set when registering your domain).Look for the option to manage DNS records.
This may appear as DNS Management, Name Server Management, Zone Editor, or Advanced Settings.Locate the CNAME and TXT record sections.
Do one of the following:
If you don’t yet have CNAME or TXT records for your chosen subdomain, select the option to add new records.
If records already exist, select the option to edit them.
Add or update the records exactly as shown in the email we sent you—entering the host name first and the record value second.
Example (your actual values will differ):
Host: survey.mycompany.com
Type: CNAME
Value: xyz123.app.sweethawk.comThe UI and terminology may differ between registrars, but the underlying principles are the same.
DNS Propagation Time
DNS changes may take several hours to propagate globally. Typical propagation times range from a few hours to 24 hours, depending on your registrar and the TTL (Time To Live) settings.
After DNS is configured
We automatically check your DNS periodically. Once the required records are detected, the app admins will receive a confirmation email letting you know that your custom Survey landing page is active.
From that point on, all survey links will direct customers to your branded subdomain.
