The Slack add-on for SweetHawk’s Approve app lets approvers receive and action approval requests directly within Slack — no need to switch to email or Zendesk.
This feature is now available for all customers.
This guide walks you through:
- Step 1 - Connecting Approve to your Slack workspace
- Step 2 - Approvers can disable Slack as a delivery method
- Step 3 - Viewing delivery status as a Zendesk agent or admin
🔧 Step 1: Connecting the Approve app to Slack
To set up the Slack integration:
- In Zendesk, click the Approve icon from the left-hand navbar.
- In the Approve app, click Addons (bottom of the left menu).
- Toggle the switch to Enable Slack Integration.
- A “Connect to Slack” button will now appear — click it.
- Enter your Slack URL and click Continue.
- Now sign-in to your Slack workspace.
- Click the green Allow button to authorize the connection.
- You should briefly see a screen saying "Slack connected successfully!".
Once completed, Approve is now ready to send requests via Slack.
🙋 Step 2: Approvers can disable Slack as a delivery method
After Slack is connected, each approver will have Slack automatically enabled as an approval method by default.
If the user does not wish to have approvals sent to Slack, they can opt-out. There are two ways they can do this:
Option A – From an Approval Email
- When an approval is sent, the approver will receive it via email.
- At the bottom of the email, click “Manage delivery preferences”.
Option B – From the Approver Portal
- Use a previous approval email to access the Approver Portal.
- Click the menu in the top right corner.
- Select “Manage delivery preferences”.
Set Slack as a preference
On the Manage Preferences screen:
- Un-check the box for Slack (and any other preferred channels).
- Click Save.
From now on, approvals will be sent to the chosen delivery methods for that individual approver.
👀 Step 3: Zendesk Agents & Admins can view delivery channels
Agents in Zendesk can easily check which channel each approval was sent through for each approver.
In the agent Apps pane on a ticket
- Open a ticket with an active approval.
- In main apps pane (usually on the left), scroll to the to the Approve app and see the timeline.
- Below the timeline, click the carrot icon beside “Waiting for x of x approvers”.
You’ll see a list of approvers for the current step, each with an icon showing how they received the approval:

Alternative: View approver preferences manually
If the approver you need to check can not be found on a live approval on a ticket, or you just want to check what their settings are:
- Click the Approve icon in the left navbar.
- Go to the Approvers section.
- Search for the approver by name or email.
- Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) next to their name and choose Edit.
You’ll now see all delivery channels for that approver and which ones are enabled.
